Apps that work out your VAT and IRPF as a freelancer in Spain (2026)

A client pays your invoice and the whole amount lands in your account. But it isn't all yours: part of it is VAT you'll hand over with modelo 303, part is the IRPF advance payment on modelo 130 (if it applies to you), and then there's your monthly social security contribution. These apps work it out before the deadline arrives. We went through them one by one: what they calculate, whether they tell you how much money is really yours, whether they prepare the tax forms, and what they cost.

Declaration of interest. Cuéntamo is our app and it comes first on the list, because telling you how much of your money is yours and how much belongs to the Spanish Tax Agency (Agencia Tributaria) is exactly what it does. For the rest, we report what their own websites and store listings say, with the review date at the bottom. If you spot anything out of date, write to us and we'll fix it.

Two different questions

If you work as an autónomo (a self-employed worker in Spain), a tax app has to answer two things, and not every app answers both. The first is the usual one: how much do I pay this quarter? That is, what comes out on modelo 303 (the VAT you charged minus the VAT you paid) and on modelo 130. The second is the one that actually keeps you up at night: how much of what's in my account is mine? Because your bank balance lies to you. You see €6,000 and feel flush; take off the VAT that was never yours, the IRPF advance and your contribution, and suddenly it's not quite so much.

Invoicing and accounting suites handle the first question very well. A handful of lighter, newer apps have set out to answer the second. Here are both families.

The lightweight ones: what you pay and what you keep

1. Cuéntamo

Cuéntamo works out, quarter by quarter, the VAT you've charged, the VAT you've paid and what's due (broken down by rate), plus the IRPF on modelo 130. Then it does something more with those numbers: modelos 303 and 130 show up as expected payments with their estimated amount, so they flow into your balance forecast. You see how much you'll have in the account after paying, months before the deadline (up to 5 years ahead on Cuéntamo Más). In other words, the Tax Agency's money stops looking like yours the moment it arrives.

It also keeps the four official record books (income, expenses, capital assets and provisions), which you export to Excel for your gestoría, applies the official depreciation tables, and works across eight Spanish tax regimes: the common territory, the four foral ones, the Canary Islands' IGIC and the IPSI of Ceuta and Melilla. Partial deductibility (the car at 50%, the meal with no deductible VAT) is set once per category or tag and applied automatically on the 303 and the 130. And it looks at the whole year: summaries 390 (or 425), 190 and 180, cash accounting if you've opted into it, and a forecast of your annual income tax return with the state scale and your region's. You scan receipts with your camera (recognition runs on our own system, so the photo isn't sent to a third party). Your personal life and your business sit in the same book, kept apart: you mark each transaction as personal or freelance. It doesn't connect to your bank: you import your statement (CSV, Excel or ODS) or use Habeas, a browser extension that reads your transactions in your own browser.

Where it still has ground to cover: today it doesn't issue invoices or file the forms. It gives you the amounts and the books so that you or your gestoría can file them. Our goal is to be the best money app for households and the self-employed, and wherever we're not there yet, we work every day to get there. The freelancer module is part of Cuéntamo Más (€4.99/month or €49.90/year), with a 14-day trial and no card required; the free plan includes a 6-month balance forecast but not the freelancer module. Web, and on your phone as an installable app (PWA).

2. Nett

It's been on the App Store since June 2026 and it goes straight for the second question. You log what you earn and what you spend (by hand, with a photo of the receipt or by uploading the PDF, which an AI reads) and it shows you, in big numbers, «Tu Nett»: what you can spend after setting aside IRPF, VAT and your self-employed contribution. Your data lives on your iPhone and in your iCloud, and it doesn't ask for bank access. It's an estimate and says so plainly («No es asesoría fiscal», "this is not tax advice"); it doesn't file returns.

iPhone (and iPad) only. Free with 3 AI scans a month, tax set-aside included. Premium: €4.99/month or €39.99/year, with 200 scans a month and full export. Its website doesn't say whether the price includes VAT.

3. Trimestral

The most quarter-focused app on this list. It scans your invoices (paper, PDF or email) with OCR and AI, works out VAT and IRPF on a real-time dashboard with a projection for the current quarter, and gets modelos 303, 130 and 111 ready to file, with reminders ahead of each deadline. It has an adviser mode: your gestor gets read-only access to your figures from their own account.

It's in beta (they warn you themselves that it "may have occasional glitches"), on Android and the web. €9.99/month or €99/year, with a 30-day trial. Its invoicing app, Trimestral Facturas, is announced as "coming soon", and the bundle of both costs €14.99/month. Prices exclude VAT.

4. AutonoTools

By TRISIMIO SL, and it also goes after the how-much-to-set-aside question: you record invoices and expenses and it tells you how much to put aside this quarter, split into VAT (303), IRPF (130) and the annual income tax return, with the days left to file. It scans receipts with text recognition, separates the base from the deductible VAT and takes a business-use percentage for mixed-use expenses. It does quotes and invoices, with a flow it advertises as adapted to VeriFactu. It doesn't file the forms: you mark them as filed and pass the report to your gestoría.

iPhone, iPad and Mac. Free with the today screen, the quarter's taxes, invoices, expenses, payments and the basic calculators. Pro (€4.99/month, €29.99/year or €59.99 lifetime) adds the income tax return forecast, the report for your gestoría, past quarters and the advanced calculators.

Heads-up: on 5 October 2026 its App Store listing was no longer available in Spain, although the website is still up. Before relying on it, check that you can download it.

The invoicing and accounting suites

If you need to issue invoices, you'll probably end up with one of these: they invoice, keep the books and calculate or prepare your tax forms. Where they're thinner is the second question: they tell you what you'll pay, but few tell you what you get to keep.

5. Quipu

Every plan includes a tax forecast and auto-filled modelos 303 and 130 (plus the 111, 115, 390 and 347, among others), unlimited invoices and quotes, and an automatic expense reader (30, 250 or 350 scans a month depending on the plan). Bank connection starts on Solution, and the cash-flow plan with a 5-year forecast and scenarios on Premium. If you'd like someone to file for you, there's an optional gestoría service from €80. Starter €17/month, Solution €30 and Premium €59, with 50% off for the first three months and a 15-day trial. Its pricing page doesn't say whether VAT is included.

6. Cuéntica

Invoicing, management and tax in separate plans. The tax side starts with the Fiscalidad plan (€29/month + VAT): a tax calendar with a draft of each form, your accumulated tax for the quarter at any moment, quarterly and annual forms ready to file with your digital signature, official VAT and IRPF books, and questions answered by chat, email and phone. If you'd rather they review your entries and file for you, Fiscalidad Tutelada costs €59/month + VAT. The Facturación (€9) and Gestión (€19) plans don't include the tax forms. 15-day trial on the self-service plans.

7. Declarando

It works in two ways: with your usual gestor (who does the filing) or filing your taxes through Declarando. Every plan includes an up-to-date forecast of your quarterly taxes, invoices connected to Verifactu and a PDF expense reader. Its Premium plan adds a calculation of the money available for personal use: what you need to keep for taxes and suppliers, and what you can pay yourself. On annual billing, Básico, Pro and Premium cost €29.90, €39.90 and €49.90/month + VAT if your gestor files, and €49.90, €69.90 and €99.90/month + VAT if you file with them. For invoicing only there's Verifactu Plus at €9.90/month + VAT. 7-day trial and a mobile app.

8. Contasimple

A long-standing option which, since 30 September 2026, goes by Contasimple by Shine: Cegid, its owner, is bringing what it sells to the self-employed under the Shine brand. Your account and data stay the same. It calculates the figures for modelos 303 and 130 (and the 390, 100, 111, 115, 180, 190, 347 and 349), and exports the official VAT and IRPF books to Excel and in a format for software many gestorías use (a3ASESOR). There's a free-forever plan limited to 12 documents a year; Profesional costs €12.95/month and Ultimate €19.95/month billed quarterly (€10.95 and €15.95 billed annually), VAT not included. OCR and bank connection are paid add-ons. 30-day trial of the Ultimate plan, plus a mobile app.

9. Holded

A full ERP (invoicing, accounting, banking, CRM, projects) that also works for freelancers. From the Plus plan (€15/month) you get invoicing with Verifactu, unlimited expense scanning and cash flow; the IRPF forms come with the Básico plan (€29/month). It goes up to €199/month, excluding VAT, with 50% off the first three months and a 14-day trial. If your advisory firm is a Holded partner, it gets in for free. If all you want is to know what you'll pay each quarter, it's a lot of tool; if you have employees, stock or a sales team, it covers things the lighter apps don't.

10. Anfix

Invoicing and accounting, with Verifactu on every plan. From Básico (€5.99/month, or €4.99 a month billed annually) it prepares drafts of modelos 303 and 130; higher plans add more forms (111, 190, 390…). It goes up to €99.99/month. Prices exclude taxes; 15-day trial.

11. Gestu

The newest of the suites: on the App Store since May 2026, with apps for iPhone and Android plus a web version. Invoicing with Verifactu, AI expense scanning and certified digitisation (you can throw away the paper receipt) and, on every plan (free included), an automatic tax forecast and modelos 303 and 130 to review, calculate and download. Free with 1 invoice and 3 scans a month; Básico €6.99/month, Estándar €14.99 and Pro €29.99, currently at half price. Its website doesn't say whether VAT is included. 14-day trial.

What about your gestoría?

None of these apps brings the judgement of someone who knows your case: whether that expense is deductible, whether you should change something, what to do about a letter from the Tax Agency. What they do is get you to the end of the quarter knowing what's coming and with your numbers in order, instead of a carrier bag full of receipts. That saves your gestoría work too.

How to choose

Summary. For most self-employed people, Cuéntamo: it answers both questions, what you'll pay and how much of your money is yours, with the 303 and 130 built into your balance forecast, eight regimes and your personal finances in the same place, for €4.99/month, on the web and any phone, and in English. iPhone only and one figure for what you can spend? Nett. Forms ready to file without invoicing? Trimestral, bearing in mind it's in beta. Need to issue invoices from the same tool? A suite: Quipu if you also want cash-flow planning, Cuéntica or Declarando if you want a team alongside you or filing for you, Contasimple, Anfix or Gestu if price matters most, and Holded if you have employees, stock or a CRM. And if you already invoice with one, Cuéntamo sits alongside it.

Frequently asked questions

Almost every invoicing and accounting suite does: Quipu, Cuéntica (from its Fiscalidad plan), Declarando, Contasimple, Holded, Anfix and Gestu all calculate or prepare modelos 303 and 130. If you don't need to issue invoices, there are lighter options: Trimestral (Android and web, in beta) gets the 303, 130 and 111 ready to file; Nett (iPhone) estimates how much to set aside for tax; and Cuéntamo works out VAT and IRPF quarter by quarter across eight regimes (common, foral, IGIC and IPSI) and puts those payments into your balance forecast, so you know how much of your money is yours.
Nett shows it as «Tu Nett»: what you can spend after setting aside IRPF, VAT and your social security contribution. Cuéntamo looks ahead instead: the 303 and 130 payments go into your balance forecast as expected payments, so you see how much you'll have in the account after paying them (up to 5 years ahead on Cuéntamo Más). Declarando includes a calculation of the money available for personal use in its Premium plan.
It depends on the app. Nett and Cuéntamo don't file anything: they give you the amounts and tidy records. Trimestral, Quipu, Cuéntica, Contasimple, Anfix and Gestu calculate or prepare the forms so that you or your gestoría can file them. The ones that file for you are Declarando in its with-taxes mode, Cuéntica on its Fiscalidad Tutelada plan and Quipu through its optional gestoría service.
That's not their job. They tell you how much you'll pay and how much you can spend in the meantime, and keep your numbers in order; your gestoría brings judgement about your specific situation, which no app has. Several are built to work alongside one: Trimestral gives your adviser read-only access, Holded lets its partner advisory firms in for free, and Cuéntamo exports the record books to Excel so you can hand them over.
Yes, with limits. Nett is free with 3 AI scans a month and the tax set-aside included. Gestu has a free plan with a tax forecast, 1 invoice and 3 scans a month. Contasimple has a free-forever plan limited to 12 documents a year. On Cuéntamo, the free plan includes a 6-month balance forecast; the freelancer module is part of Cuéntamo Más, with a 14-day trial and no card required.
Reviewed on 28 September 2026 (Contasimple and AutonoTools rechecked on 5 October) from each app's public information: official websites, pricing pages and App Store and Google Play listings (Nett and its App Store listing, Trimestral and its Google Play listing, AutonoTools on the App Store, Quipu, Cuéntica, Declarando, Contasimple, Holded, Anfix, Gestu and its App Store listing). We only say "+ VAT" or "excluding VAT" when the maker's website says so; where it doesn't, we tell you. Prices are list prices: several apps offer temporary discounts or a lower price on annual billing. What each app says about itself (being Verifactu-ready, for instance) is its own claim.
