Profile and security
Your personal account, passwords, 2FA, biometrics and appearance
What it's for
This is your "you" screen: your personal details, how you identify yourself, how you protect yourself. Here you change your name, language, visual theme, password, enable two-factor authentication and register fingerprint or Face ID. And, if it comes to it, delete your entire account.
Basic details
- Name — What other members of shared books see. If you use Cuéntamo alone, it doesn't matter.
- Email — Cannot be changed once registered. It's your identity for logging in and the address where Cuéntamo emails go.
- Language — Spanish or English. Affects the entire interface.
Theme: light, dark or automatic
Choose how the app looks:
- Light — White background always.
- Dark — Dark background always. Comfortable at night or if white bothers you.
- System — Follows your phone's or computer's preference. If you set your phone to dark mode at night, Cuéntamo follows suit.
The change is instant, no reload needed. The preference is saved in your browser (each device keeps its own).
Change password
Enter the current one, the new one (minimum 8 characters), confirm, done. You're automatically logged out of any other device where you were connected, for security.
Two-factor authentication (2FA)
The extra security layer recommended for everyone. Works with apps like Google Authenticator, Authy or 1Password: every time you log in, besides the password, you enter a 6-digit code that changes every 30 seconds.
Very important: when activating 2FA, Cuéntamo shows you a list of recovery codes. Store them somewhere safe (password manager, paper in a drawer, whatever). They're your only way in if you lose the phone with the authenticator. Without them, you're locked out.
If at any point you want to regenerate the codes or deactivate 2FA, you can do so from this same section with your password.
Fingerprint, Face ID or security key (passkeys)
If your phone has a fingerprint reader or Face ID, or your computer has Windows Hello / Touch ID, you can register them as a login method. When you come back, you use your finger instead of typing the password.
Physical security keys also work (YubiKey, Google Titan, etc.) if you use them. Cuéntamo supports the industry-standard FIDO2/WebAuthn protocol.
You can register multiple devices at once (phone + laptop + tablet) and name them to tell them apart. If you lose one, you delete it from this screen and it stops working.
Communications
Here you decide whether you want to receive occasional emails from the Cuéntamo team: news, maintenance notices, useful reminders. Essential emails (account verification, password recovery, subscription invoice) are always sent and cannot be disabled.
Delete your account
It's irreversible. Deletes your profile, all account books you own, and all associated data. Books where you're just an invited member are not deleted (they still belong to their owner). It asks for your password to confirm. Once done, there's no going back.
