Clean-up and maintenance: stray transfers and importer rules

What it's for

Two utilities to keep your accounting clean: detect transfers between accounts that slipped in as expenses/income, and review the rules the bank importer has learned about your concepts.

Detect transfers automatically

This happens: you import statements from two banks. A –€300 charge appears on Bank A on the 5th ("TRANSFER TO SAVINGS") and a +€300 credit on Bank B the same day ("INCOMING TRANSFER"). They're the same operation: you moved €300 from one account to the other. It's really neither expense nor income, it's a transfer. But they arrive separately.

This tool looks for those pairs: same amount with opposite signs, close dates, different accounts. It shows you the candidates and, with one click, you convert them into a transfer. The two transactions are linked and from that point behave as a normal transfer.

Use it after importing statements from multiple accounts, especially the first month. Once the importer learns, future transfers are detected on the spot.

Matching rules

When you import a statement and tell Cuéntamo "this concept goes in this category", a rule is created. Next time that same concept appears in a statement, Cuéntamo categorises it automatically. That's how, after a few imports, everything arrives almost fully categorised.

On this screen you see the list of created rules: the bank concept, the clean concept Cuéntamo assigns, and the category. You can edit them (change the category) or delete them if one was created by mistake.

Rules are only used when importing bank statements. They don't affect movements you create manually from the + button or those generated by recurring items.
